# My order contains Azure reservations and savings plan items

If you see **Microsoft Azure Reserved Instances** and **Microsoft Azure Savings Plan** items appearing in your order, it's important to understand what they mean and how they benefit you.

We add these items to your order with specific permissions granted to your cloud account. This lets you access and manage these cost-saving options directly through the Azure portal.

When these items are added, no extra charges are applied to the account unless you choose to purchase Azure Reservations or Savings Plans using the Azure portal. If you decide to purchase these cost-saving options, the charges will be billed on the date associated with your Azure plan.

With Azure reservations and savings plan items, you can leverage Microsoft's self-service capabilities for cost-saving provisioning. This self-service approach allows you to:

* Make purchasing decisions at your own pace.
* Select the exact configurations that match your workload needs.
* Implement cost-saving strategies when they align with your budget cycles.
* Maintain direct control over your cloud spending optimizations.

### Purchasing Azure Reserved Instances

Reserved Instances typically offer 30-70% savings compared to pay-as-you-go pricing.

To purchase Azure Reserved Instances:

1. In the [Azure portal](https://portal.azure.com/), navigate to **Reservations**.
2. On the **Reservations** page, select **Add**.
3. Choose the service you want to reserve (virtual machines, databases, and so on).
4. Select the relevant configuration options and complete all the required fields.
5. Add the product to the cart, review the summary, and complete the purchase.

For details, see [Buy a reservation](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/reservations/prepare-buy-reservation) in Microsoft's documentation. The page also describes the Azure roles required for buying reservations.

### Purchasing Azure Savings Plan

Azure Savings Plan offers flexible savings across multiple services, and it can significantly reduce resource costs. To buy a savings plan, you must have the necessary role. For details, see [Permissions to buy an Azure savings plan](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/savings-plan/permission-buy-savings-plan).

To purchase an Azure savings plan:

1. Sign in to the [Azure portal](https://portal.azure.com/).
2. In the **Search** area, enter **Savings plans,** and select **Savings plans**.
3. Select **Add**.
4. Complete all the required fields. You can name the savings plan, select the term length (1 or 3 years), and set up an hourly commitment and the billing frequency.
5. Continue through the checkout process.
6. Review your order summary and then complete your purchase.

For details, see [Buy an Azure savings plan](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/savings-plan/buy-savings-plan) in Microsoft's documentation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.platform.softwareone.com/extensions/microsoft-cloud-solution-provider/additional-resources/faqs/my-order-contains-azure-reservations-and-savings-plan-items.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
