# Terminate Microsoft 365 subscription
This tutorial explains how to cancel a subscription by submitting a termination order.
Terminating a subscription cancels the service completely. Microsoft 365 subscriptions purchased through Microsoft NCE can only be terminated within 7 days of purchase or renewal. ### Prerequisites
Ensure that both the subscription and its associated agreement are active.
### Terminate Microsoft 365 subscription

**Start the termination process**
To start the process:
1. Go to **Marketplace** > **Subscriptions**.
2. Select the subscription you want to terminate.
3. On the subscription details page, select the dropdown arrow 
, then choose **Terminate**.

**Submit the termination order**
In the guided **Terminate subscription** flow, complete the following steps:
1. **Items** – Verify that the new quantity is set to `0`, then select **Next**.
2. **Details** – Add any reference details or comments, then select **Next**.
3. **Review** – Review the order details, then select **Place order**.
4. **Summary** – Select **View order** to open the order details page or select **Close**.

### Next steps
After the termination order is submitted, the subscription and agreement status change to **Updating** while the order is being processed. During this time, you cannot submit additional orders for the agreement.
When processing is complete, the subscription status changes to **Terminated**.
