# Upgrade Microsoft 365 subscription

How to fully or partially upgrade a Microsoft 365 subscription.

This tutorial explains how to upgrade a subscription.&#x20;

Upgrading means moving licenses from an existing subscription to an eligible higher plan. You can upgrade all licenses in a subscription or only a selected number of licenses.&#x20;

Depending on your upgrade, the licenses can be transferred to a new or existing subscription.

### Prerequisites

Ensure that the subscription you want to upgrade and its corresponding agreement are active.

### Upgrade a Microsoft 365 subscription

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Open the subscription**

To open the subscription:

1. Go to **Marketplace** > **Subscriptions**.
2. Select the subscription you want to upgrade.
3. On the subscription details page, select the dropdown arrow <img src="data:image/png;base64,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" alt="<svg xmlns=&#x22;http://www.w3.org/2000/svg&#x22; height=&#x22;24px&#x22; viewBox=&#x22;0 -960 960 960&#x22; width=&#x22;24px&#x22; fill=&#x22;#5f6368&#x22;><path d=&#x22;M480-344 240-584l56-56 184 184 184-184 56 56-240 240Z&#x22;/></svg>" data-size="line">, then select **Upgrade**.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Complete the Upgrade subscription flow**

In the guided **Upgrade subscription** flow, complete the following steps:&#x20;

1. **Upgrade to** – Select the required product and term you want to upgrade to. Then:
   * Review the **Subscription**, **New qty**, and **Delta** columns. The **Subscription** column indicates whether the licenses will be transferred to a new or existing subscription.
   * To perform a full upgrade, leave the default quantity unchanged. All licenses in the source subscription are selected for transfer.
   * To perform a partial upgrade, adjust the license quantity as needed. If the licenses are transferred to an existing subscription, enter the final number of licenses that the target subscription should have after the upgrade. This includes its existing licenses plus the licenses being transferred.&#x20;

### Next steps

Your change order is submitted for processing. When the order is complete, the selected licenses are upgraded according to the upgrade option you chose.

{% hint style="info" %}
After the upgrade is successfully processed, ensure that users are manually assigned to the upgraded licenses in the [Microsoft 365 admin center](https://admin.microsoft.com).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.platform.softwareone.com/extensions/microsoft-cloud-solution-provider/additional-resources/microsoft-365/upgrade-microsoft-365-subscription.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
