# Terminate Microsoft 365 subscription

This tutorial describes how you can cancel a subscription by placing a termination order for that subscription.

### Prerequisites <a href="#howtodownsizeamicrosoft365subscriptionlicense-prerequisites" id="howtodownsizeamicrosoft365subscriptionlicense-prerequisites"></a>

Before starting this tutorial, make sure that the subscription you want to terminate is active. Make sure that the corresponding agreement is also active.

### Terminating subscriptions

**Start the subscription termination process**

To start the process:

1. Go to **Marketplace** > **Subscriptions**.
2. Select the subscription you want to terminate.&#x20;
3. **Follow the steps to terminate the subscription**

In the **Terminate Subscription** wizard, complete the following steps:

1. **Items** - Check that the new quantity field displays the value as 0. When done, select **Next**.
2. **Details** - Enter the reference information for this order, then select **Next**&#x20;
3. **Review** - Select **Place order**. A termination order is created for the subscription and submitted to the vendor for processing.&#x20;
4. **Summary** - Select **View order** to open the order details page. Otherwise, select **Close**.

When your order is being processed, the subscription and the agreement are shown as **Updating**. You cannot place any additional orders under this agreement.&#x20;

Once the termination order has been processed, the status of the subscription changes to **Terminated**.
