# Microsoft for Education

Microsoft for Education provides access to education-specific Microsoft products, services, and pricing for eligible educational institutions.

Benefits include:

* Education pricing for eligible Microsoft licenses.
* Access to education-specific Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Intune offerings.
* Security and compliance features designed for educational institutions.
* Student and educator collaboration tools.

To learn more about the benefits, features, and value that Microsoft offers to educational institutions, see [Microsoft Education](https://www.microsoft.com/education/why-microsoft-education).

{% hint style="info" %}
Education pricing applies to license-based services and perpetual software only. Azure products and software subscriptions maintain standard pricing.
{% endhint %}

### Academic eligibility

To purchase Microsoft Education subscriptions at academic pricing, your organization must be approved by Microsoft.

Without verification, you cannot purchase Microsoft Education subscriptions through the Marketplace Platform at education pricing.

### Required documents

Microsoft may require documentation such as:

* **Accreditation certificate** – Official documentation from your regional or national accrediting body.
* **Institutional authority letter** – An official letter from your educational governing body confirming your institution's academic status.
* **Domain ownership verification** – Documentation proving control of your institution's official website domain.
* **Organizational profile** – A detailed overview of your institution, including mission, student population, and educational programs offered.

Document requirements may vary depending on your institution and Microsoft's verification requirements.

#### Submission guidelines

* Ensure documents are current and valid.
* Use official institutional letterhead for any custom documentation.
* Use the institution's legal name consistently across all documents.
* Submit documents in standard formats, such as PDF.
* Provide English translations when necessary.

### Qualification options

The qualification process depends on whether your institution already has a Microsoft tenant.&#x20;

#### For institutions without an existing Microsoft tenant

You can either enroll directly with Microsoft or choose the SoftwareOne-assisted qualification process.

* Complete enrollment directly with Microsoft (recommended) by setting up a new tenant and managing the eligibility process directly with Microsoft. For details, [see this page](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/education/deploy/create-your-office-365-tenant) or contact [Microsoft Support](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/support/) for business tenants.
* Use SoftwareOne-assisted qualification

#### For institutions with an existing Microsoft tenant

If you already have a Microsoft tenant, the qualification process involves upgrading your existing environment to education status rather than creating a new one.&#x20;

You can:

* Submit a support request directly with Microsoft via Microsoft 365 Admin Center. To do this:
  1. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 Admin Center with Global Administrator credentials.
  2. Select **Support** > **New service request**.
  3. Select **Billing and subscriptions** > **Education qualification**.
  4. Upload the [required documents](#what-documents-are-needed-to-confirm-eligibility).
  5. Describe your educational institution status and qualification needs.
* Use SoftwareOne-assisted qualification

Microsoft typically processes existing tenant qualification requests within 10 business days, similar to new tenant timelines.&#x20;

### SoftwareOne-assisted qualification

For SoftwareOne-assisted qualifications, gather your documents and share them with Marketplace Platform Support. For contact options, see [Contact support](/help-and-support/contact-support.md).

### Qualification status

Microsoft typically processes qualification requests within approximately 10 business days.&#x20;

You can track the status in the Microsoft 365 admin center. For details, see the [Microsoft documentation](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/commerce/subscriptions/verify-academic-eligibility?view=o365-worldwide\&source=recommendations#check-the-status-of-your-schools-academic-eligibility).&#x20;

Your request may have one of the following statuses:

<table><thead><tr><th width="131">Status</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>In review</strong></td><td>Microsoft is evaluating your documents. If your application takes longer than the standard Microsoft timeline, contact <a href="https://support.serviceshub.microsoft.com/supportforbusiness/onboarding?origin=/supportforbusiness/manage">Microsoft Support for Business</a>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Approved</strong></td><td>Your education status is approved, and you have full access to education pricing and products.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Denied</strong></td><td>Your application doesn't meet Microsoft's current educational licensing requirements. For the next steps, see <a href="/extensions/microsoft-cloud-solution-provider/additional-resources/faqs/my-application-for-microsoft-education-is-denied.md">My application for Microsoft Education is denied</a>. Alternatively, <a href="/help-and-support/contact-support.md">contact support</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.platform.softwareone.com/extensions/microsoft-cloud-solution-provider/products-and-programs/microsoft-for-education.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
